One primary focus at Harmonia is to lighten the load of our lifestyles on the planet by living simply and in harmony with the natural environment. Living self-sufficiently means to live by producing as many of our own needs as possible, such as growing our own food, making our own soap and collecting honey from our beehives, thus minimizing the resources coming from outside the community. Living a self-sufficient lifestyle is also about living in a closed loop system: we work to minimize our inputs and accordingly we work to minimize our outputs, that is, our waste; which is why at Harmonia, we compost all our food waste, have hygienic composting toilets and utilize a bottle brick recycling system, turning any non-recyclable, non-compostable waste into bottle bricks to be used for construction.
